Today was a really big day for Brooklyn. For years she has had a terrible fear of repelling back down after a climb. She was fine with going up but going backwards brought such fear, she would cry every time. She became so afraid of it that it brought her anxiety every time we went climbing. But today she went out to the cliffs alone with her papa young and her dad, before everyone else, and was able to get some good one on one time with her dad with no pressure from anyone. Andy talked her through it and helped her learn some calming breathing techniques that would help her calm her self down. He also helped her look at climbing from a spiritual stand point by comparing the belayer to the Savior and to trust that he always has her back, just like her daddy. Brooklyn being the spiritual child that she is, that was speaking her language, she finally, for the first time was able to repel off a cliff with no fear and no crying. It was an emotional and spiritual experience for her and her dad. It brought Andy to tears watching her over come such a big fear. Brooklyn was so excited to show me her new accomplishment when we came to the cliffs later. I am so proud of her. We took this picture with Andy and her, but then everyone wanted a turn.
